This is a key role supporting the day-to-day financial operations of a 1,540-unit community, perfect for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working with numbers, and takes pride in accuracy and follow-through.
This position ensures accurate financial records, timely invoice processing, vendor payments, resident account management, and preparation of monthly financial reports. The Bookkeeper works closely with the Property Manager, Regional Manager, corporate accounting, and vendors to maintain financial accuracy and compliance.
What You’ll Do
- Accounts Payable
- Process and code vendor invoices accurately.
- Ensure all invoices have appropriate approvals and purchase orders before payment.
- Submit invoices for timely payment to avoid late fees.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
- Maintain organized invoice and vendor files.
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly Pre-Close Reports for management review.
- Review general ledger activity for accuracy.
- Identify and research accounting discrepancies before month-end close.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Prepare financial variance explanations when requested.
- Resident Accounting
- Post resident payments and adjustments.
- Process security deposit accounting and move-out charges.
- Maintain accurate resident ledgers.
- Process refunds and payment corrections when necessary.
- Monitor delinquent accounts and assist with collections.
- Bank Reconciliation
- Reconcile operating and security deposit bank accounts.
- Research outstanding checks and deposits.
- Monitor cash balances and report discrepancies.
- Budget & Reporting Support
- Assist the Property Manager with budget tracking.
- Monitor expenses against budget.
- Prepare reports for occupancy, bad debt, concessions, and collections.
- Assist with audit requests and documentation.
- Administrative Duties
- Maintain confidential financial records
- Respond to vendor and resident accounting inquiries.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.
- Assist with filing, record retention, and document organization.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s degree in accounting or business preferred
- Minimum of 2 years bookkeeping or accounting experience (property management preferred)
- Experience with property management software (OneSite/RealPage, Yardi, Entrata, AppFolio, or similar)
- Experience with affordable housing, Tax credit, HUD or conventional property management
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger accounting
- Experience processing high volumes of invoices
- Knowledge of purchase order systems
- Experience with monthly financial reporting, pre-close and month-end procedures, and financial audits.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communications kills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with on-site and corporate teams
Schedule
- Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM, occasional evenings and weekends as needed
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly rate: $26.80 to $28.80 (depending on experience)
