Job Summary
The Water and Sewer Laborer performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled duties required to operate, maintain and repair the facilities of the water distribution and wastewater collection system. Installs, maintains, and repairs water and sewer lines, related infrastructure like manholes and lift stations, and associated equipment. Work with both fresh water distribution and wastewater collection systems, ensuring safe and reliable water and sanitation service.
Duties
- Installation and Repair: Installing, repairing, and replacing water and sewer lines, including pipes, valves, hydrants, and related infrastructure like manholes and lift stations.
- Equipment Operation: Operating various tools and equipment, such as backhoes, trenchers, jetting machines, and video inspection equipment.
- Leak Detection and Repair: Locating and repairing water leaks and sewer blockages.
- Safety: Ensuring work is performed safely, adhering to established procedures and protocols.
- Emergency Response: Responding to emergency calls related to water or sewer line issues.
- Record Keeping: Document maintenance activities and report any significant issues to supervisors.
- CDL is a PLUS
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a utility or maintenance role is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with others.
- Physical requirements, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, run, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, controls, or tools. Must be able to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.
