Philbrick’s Generators is looking for an experienced Generator Service Technician to join our team. We are a local generator company specializing in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and light-commercial standby generator systems throughout New Hampshire and surrounding areas.
We are specifically looking for someone who already has hands-on generator service and troubleshooting experience and is comfortable working independently in the field.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair residential and light-commercial standby generators
- Perform preventative maintenance and tune-ups
- Troubleshoot engine, fuel, electrical, charging, starting, and control-system issues
- Diagnose generator output, voltage, frequency, and transfer-switch related problems
- Perform simulated outages and operational testing
- Read and understand wiring diagrams, service manuals, and technical documentation
- Accurately document diagnostics, repairs, readings, and recommendations
- Communicate findings clearly and professionally with customers and office staff
- Maintain an organized service vehicle, tools, and parts inventory
- Work independently while knowing when additional technical support is needed
Experience We're Looking For
Generator service experience is required for this position.
Ideal candidates will have experience servicing and troubleshooting one or more of the following:
- Briggs & Stratton
- Generac
- Kohler
Experience with residential standby generators, small engines, natural gas/propane fuel systems, transfer switches, and AC/DC electrical troubleshooting is strongly preferred.
Manufacturer certifications are a plus, but we are also interested in technicians who have substantial hands-on generator experience and strong diagnostic abilities.
Qualifications
- Previous hands-on generator service and repair experience
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to diagnose problems rather than simply replace parts
- Understanding of AC and DC electrical systems
- Familiarity with natural gas and propane generator systems
- Ability to work independently in the field
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Dependable, organized, and professional
- Strong communication and customer-service skills
- Ability to work outdoors throughout the year in New England weather
What We're Looking For
We're a small company, so reliability and attitude matter just as much as technical ability. We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, communicates well, documents what they find, and wants to be part of a team.
We want a technician who can arrive at a customer's home, properly diagnose the generator, explain what was found, and complete the repair correctly without needing constant supervision.
What We Offer
- Full-time, year-round employment
- Competitive pay based on generator experience and certifications
- Company service vehicle for work
- Manufacturer training and opportunities to expand certifications
- Steady residential and light-commercial generator work
- Opportunity to work on multiple major generator brands
- Local service territory
- Small-company environment where experienced technicians are valued
