Role Overview
As a Carpenter / Timber Fabricator at Duncan & Grove, you will manufacture high-quality timber playground equipment in a dedicated workshop environment. Our work ranges from simple, repeatable catalogue components through to large-scale bespoke playground structures, offering varied, challenging, and rewarding work.
This is not site carpentry or general construction. The role is focused on precision timber fabrication, consistent build quality, and long-term durability for public environments. You will work from detailed technical drawings and established build methods using high-quality hardwoods such as robinia.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture timber components and assemblies from technical drawings and specifications
- Carry out standardised woodworking tasks, including:
- Chainsaw work and cross-cutting
- Timber framing and studding
- Flat-spotting and multi flat-spotting
- Accurate drilling, boring, and cross-bolting
- Safe sanding and finishing
- Assembly of timber frames and structures
- Standard catalogue products
- Modified catalogue products
- Large bespoke playground projects
- Work to defined build sequences and internal quality standards
- Identify and report quality, dimensional, or material issues during production
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment
- Follow safety-critical build requirements in line with ASTM playground safety standards
What We’re Looking For
- Strong carpentry background (site or workshop)
- Confident reading and working from technical drawings
- High level of accuracy, craftsmanship, and attention to detail
- Comfortable using hand tools, woodworking machinery, jigs, and fixtures
- Practical problem-solving ability
- Willingness to follow established processes and learn Duncan & Grove build systems
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work effectively within a production team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and handle materials up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable standing and working on your feet for extended periods
Pay & Employment
- $20–$30 per hour, depending on experience and ability
- Pay review after 6 months, then annually thereafter
- Monday to Friday schedule
