Omega Truss Systems is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and versatile professional to join our growing team as a Truss Design, Field Measurement & Fabrication Coordination Specialist. This role bridges the gap between design, field data collection, client collaboration, and shop-floor execution. About the Role
This position combines structural truss design, field measurements, fabrication detailing, project coordination, and client interaction. You will play a critical role in ensuring designs are accurate, constructible, and delivered on schedule while maintaining the highest standards of quality and customer service.
Location
Office, fabrication facility, and project job sites (travel requirements vary by project).
Key Responsibilities
1. Truss Design & Detailing
- Design roof and floor truss systems using industry-standard software and drafting tools.
- Create detailed fabrication drawings and 3D models that accurately depict connections, member sizes, plate locations, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs), material takeoffs, and fabrication documentation.
- Develop and maintain standard details, drawing templates, and design libraries to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Coordinate with engineers to ensure structural requirements are met.
2. Field Measurement & As-Built Documentation
- Conduct on-site measurements and site assessments.
- Verify dimensions, elevations, spans, bearing conditions, and existing structural conditions.
- Record field data through sketches, notes, photographs, and digital documentation.
- Convert field information into accurate as-built drawings and revisions.
- Communicate field changes and their impact on schedules, budgets, and fabrication requirements.
3. Client Layouts, Prints & Material Optimization
- Prepare client-ready layouts showing truss locations, spacing, elevations, and installation details.
- Produce cutting lists and fabrication layouts to maximize material utilization and reduce waste.
- Assist clients with design modifications and layout reviews.
4. Fabrication Coordination
- Collaborate closely with fabrication and production teams to ensure drawings are clear, accurate, and production-ready.
- Review designs for manufacturability, constructability, and fabrication efficiency.
- Resolve design conflicts and production concerns before fabrication begins.
- Monitor fabrication schedules, material availability, lead times, and delivery deadlines.
- Participate in quality control inspections to ensure fabricated products meet design specifications.
5. Documentation & Compliance
- Manage drawing revisions, document control, and version tracking.
- Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and project specifications.
- Process change orders and update drawings following field modifications.
- Maintain organized project records and standard design resources.
6. Client Interaction & Project Support
- Meet with clients to review designs, layouts, and project requirements.
- Present design options and respond to questions or change requests.
- Coordinate with estimators, project managers, engineers, and installers.
- Prepare project status reports, RFIs, and other project documentation as required.
7. Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement
- Perform internal design and drawing reviews to reduce errors and improve accuracy.
- Identify workflow improvements, templates, and best practices that increase productivity and reduce turnaround times.
- Support company initiatives focused on operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, CAD Drafting, Construction Technology, or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in truss design, structural detailing, fabrication coordination, or related construction/manufacturing fields.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and related drafting software.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of construction practices, structural systems, and fabrication processes.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.
Preferred
- Experience with Revit, Tekla Structures, MiTek, Alpine, or other truss design software.
- Experience generating cut lists, nesting layouts, and fabrication documentation.
- Knowledge of residential and commercial building codes and engineering standards.
- Familiarity with structural connections, hardware, plate systems, welding, and fabrication tolerances.
- Project coordination or project management experience.
