Description: Opticians and eyewear consultants work with the OD’s prescription and the patient’s optical profile to recommend eyewear that is functional AND fashionable. From managing frame inventory on the floor to managing lab status reports, optical handles all things eyewear. This environment relies on proper data entry, attention to detail, and consistency. The optical department runs and works a set of reports each month to evaluate this data and make determinations for better patient care opportunities. We are looking for a candidate with exceptional communication skills, flexibility, a personal drive to develop and learn, and the professional passion required to aid in Dalton Optometry’s growth. Prior eye care or optical experience is required for this role; optometric certification is preferred (ABO, NCLE, LDO, etc).

Job Duties:

Provide excellent customer service to patients, addressing all eye wear needs – Patients are our TOP priority!

Fit patients in eyewear of appropriate size and style for their prescription

Dispense, adjust and troubleshoot eyewear orders
4. Maintain a familiarity with the optical inventory and products
5. Process inventory and manage/track stock items
6. All data processing MUST go through a computer system for ownership and management – candidate must develop a proficiency with all electronic systems and processes maintained by the practice
7. Work with outside vendors to process patient orders
8. Complete required reports and data reconciliation by management provided deadlines
9. Answer the phone to schedule appointments, triage incoming calls, place orders, or any other patient/office needs
10. Verify and interpret insurance benefits for services and/or materials
11. Must have the willingness and flexibility to learn and adapt in a variety of situations
12. Must have the drive and investment in the practice to help with promotion and growth
13. Aid in promotional aspect of business growth such as social media
14. Keeps work area clean of clutter and maintains a professional and organized ambience. Monthly / Annual Staff Meetings
15. Maintains appropriate patient HIPAA confidentiality by protecting patient’s identities through securing of paper / computer information that could be seen by other patients, correct use of names while on telephone that could be overheard by other patients, in conversation with other staff either in person or over inter-office telephone that could be overheard by other patients.
16. Promotes positive and professional attitude and enforces company financial policies with patients.
