Job Summary
Join our team as a Detention Security Hardware Apprentice and become an essential part of maintaining the security hardware support for detention facilities. This paid apprenticeship offers hands-on experience in installing, troubleshooting, and repairing complex security hardware locks. You will develop technical skills in low-voltage electrical systems, and mechanical electrical locking systems, all while supporting the safety of detention environments. This role is ideal for individuals eager to build a career in security systems with a focus on electrical and mechanical expertise, providing a pathway to becoming a skilled lock repair and customer service sales and support technician. This job starts at 20.00 per hour with incremental raises every month for six months. Periodic raises thereafter as experience developments. Benefits begin 30 days after the first of the month.
Duties
- Interacting with customers regarding the service and repair of the facility detention locks in our shop.
- Read and interpret technical O&M manuals, and electrical diagrams to aid lock repairs.
- Use hand and power tools safely to perform lock repair, detention hardware fabrication, perform key cutting with CNC key cutting machines, and component installation and removal from existing electromechanical locks.
- Collaborate with senior technicians to learn system design principles, electrical blueprint reading, and troubleshooting techniques for complex security solutions.
- Requirements
- Basic mechanical knowledge combined with a strong interest in electrical mechanical lock repairs and alterations.
- Basic math, reading and writing skills. Good computer skills and most importantly, willingness to learn.
- Hands-on experience with power tools, hand tools.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot equipment issues efficiently.
- Excellent customer service skills to support client interactions during order processing or lock repairs.
- Physical ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting, carrying detention locks(as much as 50lbs), and to perform other shop and yard tasks as needed.
- Learning the basics of all detention security door hardware and all asscociated operations.
