POSITION SUMMARY
Under the administrative direction of the Public Works Director, the Public Works Foreman supervises and coordinates the daily operations, personnel, and maintenance activities of the Public Works Department. The position oversees work crews engaged in the maintenance, repair, construction, and operation of streets, stormwater systems, wastewater pipe, parks, facilities, and other municipal infrastructure.
SALARY RANGE
$22.57 / Hour - $28.20 / Hour
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
- Supervise, schedule, and direct daily activities of Public Works employees and work crews.
- Assign work orders to staff.
- Assist with maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs, storm drainage systems, sewer infrastructure, signs (as allowed by the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, MUTCD), rights-of-way, parks, and other City facilities.
- Coordinate and assist in snow and ice removal operations, storm response, and any emergency repairs.
- Maintain accurate records including work logs, equipment inspections, and maintenance schedules for City equipment.
- Assist in budget planning and recommend equipment for replacement or infrastructure improvements.
- Aids in the oversight of construction completed by contractors and supervises cooperative Public Works/contractor construction activities.
- Trains employees in Public Works on the proper use of equipment as necessary.
- Assists with maintaining accurate maps of public infrastructure and other utilities at the Public Works facility.
REQUIRED JOB COMPETENCIES
- Experience operating backhoes, loaders, excavators, skid steers, and single/tandem axle dump trucks is preferred.
MINIMUM AND PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Three (3) to Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Public Works, Utilities, Construction, Streets, Sewer, or other related fields.
- One (1) Year of Supervisory or Lead Worker Experience Preferred
- Class B Commercial Driver's License required; Class A preferred
PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability for the individual to perform strenuous physical labor (in a variety of hot and cold weather conditions).
- Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and operate heavy equipment for extended periods of time.
- Ability to withstand exposure to outdoor weather, confined spaces, traffic, noise, dust, chemicals, and sewer environments.
- Occasional use of computer terminal and digital equipment.
