We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly qualified Oboe Instructor to join our growing faculty. This position offers the opportunity to work with motivated students of varying ages and abilities while becoming part of a collaborative team of educators dedicated to musical excellence.
Position Summary
The Oboe Instructor will provide engaging, individualized private lessons to students ranging from beginners through advanced musicians. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional performance skills, strong pedagogical knowledge, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine passion for helping students achieve their musical goals.
Responsibilities
- Teach weekly private oboe lessons to students of all ages and experience levels.
- Develop individualized lesson plans that promote healthy playing technique, musical artistry, and long-term growth.
- Instruct students in:
- Tone production
- Breath support
- Reed fundamentals
- Finger technique
- Intonation
- Articulation
- Sight-reading
- Music theory
- Performance preparation
- Prepare students for recitals, auditions, honor bands, PMEA festivals, college auditions, and competitions.
- Maintain accurate lesson records and communicate student progress with families.
- Encourage consistent practice habits through positive motivation and goal setting.
- Participate in Music Note recitals and faculty events as requested.
- Collaborate professionally with other faculty members and administrative staff.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled lessons.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Oboe Performance, Music Education, or a related music field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Professional performing experience is highly desirable.
- Previous private teaching experience with children and adults preferred.
- Strong understanding of reed adjustment and basic reed-making principles.
- Knowledge of orchestral, solo, and chamber literature.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Reliable, organized, and committed to providing exceptional customer service.
- Ability to inspire students in a positive and encouraging learning environment.
Requirements
- Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
- Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Background Check
- FBI Fingerprinting Clearance (if applicable)
- Ability to legally work in the United States
- Reliable transportation
- Willingness to sign The Music Note Independent Contractor Agreement
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with experience in one or more of the following are encouraged to apply:
- English Horn instruction
- Double reed ensemble coaching
- Chamber music coaching
- Beginning reed-making instruction
- Youth orchestra preparation
- College audition preparation
