Maintain the grounds of Wayne Community College. Areas include lawns, trees and shrubs, parking areas, roads, and athletic facilities.
The primary responsibility is to maintain the campus grounds. Tasks include lawns, trees and shrubs, parking areas, roads and athletic facilities. Duties includes mowing (riding on power equipment over uneven terrain), trimming grassy areas, pruning trees, raking leaves and grass clippings, picking up litter, emptying outside trash receptacles and applying lime, fertilizer and pesticides. Applicants must be able to walk over extended distances carrying equipment weighing in excess of 20 lbs. (string trimmers, edger’s, backpack blowers and sprayers) and be able to safely lift objects weighing up to 100 lbs. (fertilizer bags, debris, etc.). This position will require applicants to work in inclement weather and extreme temperatures.
High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of experience in grounds maintenance or related work preferred. Must be able to communicate effectively, follow oral and written instructions, and work independently or in a team environment. Must be knowledgeable of and demonstrate the ability to operate hand and power tools and equipment, and the ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment. Irrigation and/or small engine repair experience preferred. Candidates must have a basic working knowledge of computers and associated software. A valid North Carolina Driver’s License and a driving record which allows applicant to be insurable under WCC’s auto insurance policy is required. Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred and a National Career Readiness Certificate is preferred.

Unofficial transcripts from all degree-granting, institutions must be electronically attached to your application or submitted to Human Resources before being considered for an interview.
