This position is responsible for operating a light delivery/panel truck or similar vehicle to deliver daily orders of perishable products, service customers in the local area in the most timely, safe manner, maintaining professionalism as a priority by performing the following essential duties:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Load truck with boxed orders scheduled for the days deliveries
- Deliver orders and get receiving slips signed
- Use cell phone to report on progress of deliveries, or resolve issues and concerns
- Pick up returns and items for use by the company. Verify goods received against invoices and signed receipts.
- Maintain simple records of deliveries and truck mileage
- Follow maintenance schedule for have truck serviced. Take other vehicles for service when instructed to do so. Report any mechanical problems to the supervisor.
- Assist in general warehouse duties upon completing delivery route
- Clean both the interior and exterior of the delivery vehicle on a daily basis
SCOPE OF WORK:
These duties are performed rather independently and reporting directly to the Plant Manager. While the job has reoccurring tasks, it includes duties that involve a moderate degree of complexity due to the nature of delivery route driver work.
The ideal person must be familiar with traffic laws, reading maps and general knowledge of the local areas to assist in the timely delivery of goods sold. This person must take responsibility for decisions made as they impact people and the quality of service provided to our customers. Sound judgement, efficient time management and a high level of professionalism are of the upmost importance as it effects the smooth operations of the whole company as well as it's reputation and customer trust levels
JOB SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOW-HOW:
- Knowledge of highway rules and regulations
- Ability to read directions and use street map to plot delivery route
- Experience in using truck controls properly
- Ability to think and move quickly and react properly when the unexpected happens and continually review what reaction could be taken in numerous emergency situations.
- Problem solving skills
- Clear and efficient communication skills, both verbal and written
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality, trust and dependability
- High level of integrity
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- Forklift certified a plus!
- Previous delivery experience preferred. On the job training provided
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Able to sit for long periods of time while driving the truck
- Able to climb into and out of the cab of the truck and use gear shift and clutch
- Must have clear vision while driving and completing paperwork
- Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. as well as push and or pull up to 80lbs.
