The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) reports to the Manager for CVI APPs. The APP works as an integral member of the structural heart team with interventional cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiology fellows, nurses, and medical assistants. Responsible for providing post procedure care for patients post TAVR, Mitraclip, and LAAO implant in the ambulatory setting including but not limited to initial hospital follow-up, medication compliance, ordering and interpreting required diagnostic testing, referrals to cardiac rehab and other specialists, resources, and patient and family education. Responsible for collecting key data for structural heart repair registries, TVT and LAAO.

- Provide direct follow up care to patients and families after TAVR, LAAO implant (Watchman), Mitraclip, and other structural cases from initial hospital follow up and all required subsequent procedure-related visits.
- Ability to identify and manage post procedure complications and communicate findings to proceduralists such as but not limited to acute heart failure, arrhythmias, access site complications, bleeding complications, etc.
- Provide patient and family education about procedure, follow up and care expectations.
- Acts as a liaison between the hospital, Structural Heart Program, and other aspects of the Cardiovascular Institute. Performs all follow up support to patients and physicians.
- Coordinate and collaborate with other members of the structural heart team as well as the hospital care team.
- Attend weekly structural heart team meetings.
- Attend bi-monthly team meetings with all other ambulatory APPs, ambulatory medical director, and ambulatory leadership team.
- Complete yearly mandatory continuing education requirements including BLS and ACLS.
- Participate in the education, clinical research and mentoring of healthcare providers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
Graduated from an accredited physician assistant program with a master’s degree and has current board certification from the NCCPA or graduated from an accredited nurse practitioner master’s degree program and has current board certification from ANCC or AANP.
Must have current Rhode Island state licensure to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse or physician assistant. Must have current prescriptive privileges and DEA licenses.
Must have current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Prefer 1-2 years of cardiology experience as an advanced practice provider (NP or PA).
