Job Summary
The Extrusion Machine Set-up Operator sets up, operates, or tends machines to extrude or draw metal materials into tubes, rods, hoses, wire, bars, or structural shapes.
Essential Job Functions
· Measures and examines extruded products to locate defects and to check for conformance to specifications, adjusting controls as necessary to alter products
· Determines setup procedures and selects machine dies and parts, according to specifications
· Installs dies, machine screws, and sizing rings on machines that extrude metal materials
· Changes die on extruding machines according to production line changes
· Starts machines and sets controls to regulate hydraulic, air pressure, sizing rings, and temperature, and to synchronize speed of extrusion
· Watches gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly
· Moves materials to production areas, or containers, by hand, using hoist, overhead crane and/or forklift truck
· Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunction
· Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required
· Completes cross-training on different machines in the area as required by supervision
· Trains other teammates as required by supervision
· Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition in accordance with 5S protocol and follows prescribed standard procedures and safety regulations
· Reports to work regularly and punctually as working schedule requires
Performs related duties as assigned by supervision
Required/Preferred Education and Experience
· High school diploma or GED diploma, or one year or more direct experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
· Bronze CRC Certification
· 12 months experience in the industry or like equipment preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
· Knowledge of raw materials, key manufacturing processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
· Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
· Able to work independently and with other teammates in the organization to achieve goal
· Able to identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
· Skilled in oral and written communication, organization and coordination
· Forklift license
· Basic computer skills
Physical Requirements – needs modify
The employees in this position must be able to stand continuously (5.01 hours and over/day), walk and bend/stoop frequently (25 min to 2.5 hours/day). The employee must be able to push up to 55 pounds frequently. The employee must be able to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears. The employee must be able to keep his/her hand and arm steady while moving his/her arm or while holding his/her arm and hand in one position The employee must be able to quickly move his/her hand, his/her hand together with his/her arm, or his/her two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. The employee must be able to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. The employee must be able to use his/her abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing. Employee must be able to wear hearing protection, interpret information by using visual acuity, hearing and speaking, gross and fine motor skills, and work 8 hours or more frequently.
