The City of Oxnard's Community Development Department is seeking a Code Compliance Inspector with strong technical and customer service skills to be part of the Community Development team. This individual must be comfortable applying technical knowledge while following proper inspection techniques. The ideal candidate will have the ability to inspect and identify code and ordinance violations and determine the most effective method of alleviating violations, and must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. This person is able to investigate and resolve problems diplomatically and calmly, while thriving in a fast-paced environment. This person will be detail-oriented and able to work with accuracy and careful attention to detail. This position will be responsible for providing code enforcement relating to public health, nuisance abatement, code enforcement activities and related municipal enforcement activities.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Use good interpersonal skills to obtain public cooperation and compliance with code and ordinance violations.
Conduct routine field inspections to determine violations of applicable City Codes.
Help deliver on the City Council's mission for clean, safe, prosperous and attractive neighborhoods by recommending and/or taking appropriate action including issuing warning notices and administrative citations where code violations are present.
Engage with and inform community members about code compliance guidelines, standards, laws, and regulations.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
This classification is distinguished from the Permit Technician in that in performs investigations and technical work related to the enforcement of and compliance with municipal, state and federal codes.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED / SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives general supervision on routine items which are performed according to established standards and procedures and receives specific work instruction regarding non-routine matters and deadlines.
WORK SCHEDULE:
The normal work is a 4/10, 7:30am to 6:00pm. This position will be required to be available to work on weekend days and/or additional hours as needed to respond to workload needs. This position is eligible for overtime pay. The City does not offer hybrid or remote work.

NOTE:
For most positions, the City of Oxnard relies on office automation (Microsoft Office/Google) and web-based enabled tools, therefore candidates must be proficient and comfortable with computer use to perform functions associated with on-going work.
Regular and reliable attendance, effective communication skills, and development of effective working relationships are requirements of all positions.
Employees are required to participate in the City's direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.
This position requires a 12-month probationary period.
Pursuant to California Government Code Section 3100, all public employees are required to serve as disaster service workers subject to such disaster service activities as may be assigned to them.
This position is governed by the overtime provisions of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay.
