Role Overview
This is a true entry point into a detailing career with one of the most respected MEP contractors in the country, with real mentorship, clear progression into senior VDC and leadership roles, and the flexibility of a fully remote position. No prior detailing experience required. Plumbing/piping apprentices, trade-school grads, and helpers with basic Revit/BIM skills are strongly encouraged to apply.
As a Detailer I, Plumbing & Piping, you'll support construction projects through the creation and coordination of shop drawings, BIM modeling, and MEP plumbing and piping systems. Working under the direction of experienced detailers and VDC leads, you'll produce basic plumbing and piping shop drawings, assist with clash detection and MEP coordination, and build hands-on proficiency in Navisworks, Revit, and AutoCAD. Final title, level, and compensation may be adjusted based on the candidate's skills and experience through the interview process.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide basic support on construction projects, including receiving, logging, tracking, expediting, and distributing shop drawings and other construction documentation
- Create basic plumbing and piping shop drawings
- Provide basic 3D modeling using BIM
- Reduce time and costs related to potential errors through clash detection
- Provide MEP coordination across trades
- Maintain a protocol of documents so information can be retrieved and understood by others
- Collaborate with design and build teams to eliminate construction errors due to design flaws
- Attend and participate in construction and coordination meetings as required
Required Background
- High School diploma or GED and a minimum of 0 years of detailing experience, or currently enrolled in a trade apprenticeship program
- Basic understanding of plumbing, piping, HVAC, or sheet metal trades and field installation methods
- Basic knowledge of applicable AEC, BIM, and CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD)
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents
- Strong attention to detail
- Basic verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write, edit, and proofread content
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
