The Hazmat Technician is responsible for the safe collection, handling, consolidation, and preparation of hazardous materials generated throughout the facility. This role ensures that all hazardous waste is properly identified, documented, transported internally, and staged at a central accumulation point for compliant storage and shipment, in accordance with all applicable environmental, health, and safety regulations.
Compensation: $23.00 per hour pay rate (U.S. Dollars)
Shift: 1st shift Monday - Friday

Collect hazardous waste and materials from various departments and operational areas within the plant.

Safely transport hazardous materials to a designated central accumulation/storage area.

Properly identify, segregate, label, and package hazardous waste according to regulatory requirements.

Ensure all containers are in good condition, compatible with contents, and properly sealed.

Maintain accurate logs and documentation for hazardous waste tracking, including manifests and inventory records.

Coordinate with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and third-party vendors for waste pickup and disposal.

Conduct routine inspections of storage areas to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.

Respond to hazardous material spills or incidents, following established emergency procedures.

Assist in maintaining Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and proper hazard communication practices.

Support audits and regulatory inspections by maintaining organized and compliant records.

Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility throughout the plant.

Education & Experience
-
High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification preferred.
-
1–3 years of experience handling hazardous materials or working in an industrial, manufacturing, or environmental services setting.
Certifications (Preferred or Required)
-
OSHA Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification (24- or 40-hour).

DOT Hazmat Transportation training (or ability to obtain).

Forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
Knowledge & Skills

Understanding of EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations related to hazardous materials handling and transportation.

Ability to read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS).

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Basic recordkeeping and documentation capabilities.

Good communication skills and ability to work with multiple departments.

Ability to follow strict safety procedures and protocols.
Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 lbs.

Frequent walking, standing, bending, and handling of containers.

Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, and protective suits as required.

Comfortable working in an industrial or plant environment with exposure to chemicals and varying conditions.
