Job Summary
Durham Crisis Response Center is are seeking a compassionate, organized, and trauma-informed Shelter Manager to support the daily operations of our domestic violence shelter program. This role is ideal for someone passionate about survivor advocacy, crisis intervention, and helping individuals and families move toward safety and stability.
The Shelter Manager will provide direct support to shelter residents through case management, crisis response, house meetings, and daily shelter operations. This position works closely with the Shelter Director and plays an important role in maintaining a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for survivors of domestic violence and their children.
This position does not supervise staff but requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to respond effectively in crisis situations.
Responsibilities Include:
- Providing trauma-informed case management and advocacy services
- Assisting residents with safety planning, housing resources, goal setting, and referrals
- Facilitating house meetings and resident check-ins
- Supporting daily shelter operations and maintaining a safe living environment
- Responding to resident concerns, conflicts, and crisis situations using de-escalation techniques
- Answering crisis hotline calls as needed
- Completing documentation, case notes, and incident reports accurately and timely
- Participating in an on-call rotation for after-hours support, emergencies, and staffing needs
- Collaborating with the Shelter Director and agency team to support survivor-centered services
Qualifications:
- Experience working in domestic violence services, shelters, crisis intervention, social services, or related field preferred
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care and survivor-centered advocacy
- Strong communication, organizational, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
- Ability to remain calm and effective in high-stress situations
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or related field required

Pay: $47,000.00 per year
