Duties
- Safely operate school buses or community transport vehicles, ensuring compliance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and safety standards.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections, including mechanical checks and vehicle safety assessments, to guarantee optimal functioning.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and emergency stop procedures, to protect passengers at all times.
- Provide assistance with boarding and disembarking, including heavy lifting when necessary, while maintaining a friendly and professional demeanor.
- Support children or clients during transit by engaging in behavior management techniques and ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the journey.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, school staff, or care providers regarding transportation schedules or passenger needs.
- Assist teachers or caregivers in classroom activities or childcare routines as needed, contributing to a nurturing learning environment.
- Respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected situations with defensive driving skills and quick decision-making to ensure timely arrivals.
Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; experience in school bus driving or paratransit preferred.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, heavy lifting techniques, and emergency response procedures for transportation safety.
- Certification in first aid and CPR; ability to respond effectively during emergencies involving children or passengers with special needs.
- Experience working with children or individuals requiring childcare or senior care support; excellent behavior management skills.
- Ability to handle physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects safely; comfortable working in various weather conditions.
- Familiarity with school policies, child safety protocols, and customer service principles to foster positive interactions with passengers and families.
