Application Engineer
Location: Columbus, Ohio (with regular travel to Mason, Ohio and customer locations throughout North America)
Position Summary
Acculon Energy is seeking a highly motivated Application Engineer to serve as the primary technical interface between our customers, sales organization, product engineering teams, and manufacturing operations. This position combines engineering expertise with customer engagement to develop technical solutions that successfully integrate Acculon's advanced lithium-ion and sodium-ion battery systems into customer applications.
The successful candidate will work directly with OEMs, distributors, dealers, and strategic customers throughout the sales cycle—from initial technical discussions through product launch and field support. This individual will translate customer requirements into engineering specifications, support proposal development, troubleshoot integration challenges, and help ensure successful deployment of Acculon battery systems.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys working with customers while remaining deeply involved in product design, system architecture, and technical problem solving.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Technical Leadership
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between customers and Acculon's engineering organization.
- Support technical sales meetings, product demonstrations, and design reviews.
- Build trusted technical relationships with OEM engineering teams.
- Support customer visits, factory demonstrations, and product evaluations.
Applications Engineering
- Translate customer requirements into engineering specifications.
- Develop application-specific battery system recommendations.
- Review customer electrical architectures.
- Assist engineering with product customization opportunities.
- Support prototype development and customer validation testing.
Technical Sales Support
- Support proposal development and technical quotations.
- Assist sales personnel with technical presentations.
- Develop technical presentations and application notes.
- Provide engineering support during contract negotiations.
System Integration
- Support integration of battery systems into vehicles, industrial equipment, energy storage systems, and specialty applications.
- Participate in electrical architecture reviews.
- Review CAN communications and system interfaces.
- Support BMS integration and customer software interfaces.
Field Support
- Provide customer startup and commissioning support.
- Assist with troubleshooting battery system performance.
- Lead root cause investigations.
- Coordinate corrective actions between engineering and manufacturing.

Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in:
- Electrical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Mechatronics
- Software Engineering
- Systems Engineering
- Computer Engineering
- or related engineering discipline
Experience
Required
- 5–8 years of Applications Engineering, Systems Engineering, Product Engineering, or Sales Engineering experience
- Experience supporting OEM customers
- Experience with customer technical presentations
- Experience translating customer requirements into engineering specifications

Travel Requirements
- Approximately 25–40% domestic travel
- Regular travel between Columbus and Mason, Ohio
- Customer visits throughout the United States
- Occasional international travel may be required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in office, laboratory, and manufacturing environments
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally
- Ability to wear required PPE in manufacturing environments
- Ability to travel frequently by automobile and commercial airline

Pay: $88,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
