The Human Resources Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department and provides responsive, accurate, and confidential support to employees throughout the employee lifecycle. This position assists with recruitment, onboarding, benefits, leave administration, employee records, HR systems, compliance, and general HR support.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, professional, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school environment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (include but not limited to)
Employee Support, Benefits, and Leave
- Serve as a point of contact for employees regarding HR policies, benefits, leave, employment documentation, and general HR questions.
- Provide guidance regarding established HR procedures and route concerns to the appropriate leader when needed.
- Assist employees with benefits enrollment, qualifying life events, and general benefits questions.
- Support administration of FMLA, parental leave, medical leave, workers' compensation, and other applicable leave programs.
- Track required leave documentation and maintain accurate benefits and leave records.
- Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive employee information.
Recruitment, Onboarding, and Offboarding
- Support the recruitment and hiring process, including reviewing applications, organizing candidate information, and scheduling interviews.
- Communicate interview details and assist with tracking candidates throughout the hiring process.
- Coordinate required pre-employment screenings and documentation.
- Coordinate new employee onboarding, including paperwork, orientation materials, benefits information, and required acknowledgements.
- Ensure employee files contain required employment and compliance documents.
- Coordinate employee separation paperwork, system updates, benefits notifications, and other offboarding requirements.
HR Records, Systems, and Compliance
- Maintain accurate employee information in HR, payroll, timekeeping, benefits, and other systems.
- Maintain confidential personnel records.
- Process approved employee changes, including position, supervisor, location, status, compensation, and personal information.
- Support employees and supervisors with attendance, PTO, leave, and timekeeping procedures.
- Review records for missing or incomplete information and follow up as needed.
- Track required employee documents, trainings, acknowledgements, certifications, and licenses.
- Assist with HR audits, reporting, and compliance requirements.
General HR Administration
- Prepare HR correspondence, employment verifications, reports, forms, and spreadsheets.
- Respond to employee inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with employee communications, handbook acknowledgements, orientations, and annual HR processes.
- Maintain HR calendars, deadlines, trackers, and reports.
- Support HR projects and other duties as assigned.
Board Governance & Administrative Support
- Prepare and coordinate Board meeting agendas, ensuring all necessary materials and action items are organized and distributed in advance of each meeting.
- Accurately document and maintain Board meeting minutes
- Attend and provide administrative support during monthly Board of Directors meetings, ensuring meetings are properly documented and follow established procedures after normal business hours.
- Maintain organized and accurate records of Board agendas, minutes, and related documentation for compliance and reference purposes.
Professional Conduct and Other
- Exhibit professional judgment and responsibility at all times.

- Participate in assigned morning, lunch, and afternoon duties as assigned
- Follow attendance policy as assigned by the supervisor.
- Perform other functions that may be assigned by the Administration and/or supervisor.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Maintains a clean organized work environment.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- 2–3 years of Human Resources or related experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.
- Ability to learn and use HR, payroll, timekeeping, and applicant tracking systems.
Preferred
- HR experience in a school, charter school, nonprofit, or similar environment.
- Experience with benefits, leave administration, onboarding, and employee records.
- Knowledge of federal and Louisiana employment requirements.
- SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar HR certification
