JOB SUMMARY:
This role provides direct, hands-on personal care and environmental support to patients recovering from hospitalization who require recuperative care. This role is focused on maintaining patient dignity, hygiene, and a clean, safe healing environment.
This role’s primary responsibility is bedside and environmental support, maintaining the patient’s room and immediate surroundings to high standards of cleanliness and infection prevention and is essential to reducing infection risk, promoting medical recovery, and ensuring a safe environment for healing.
This role also works closely with the interdisciplinary care team and collaborates with community partners as appropriate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, oral care, dressing, hygiene maintenance, and occasional continence care during emergencies.
- Pr ovide respectful bedside support while maintaining patient dignity at all times.
- Assist with adaptive equipment and mobility aids.
- Encourage and assist with light exercise per established care plan.
- Support meal setup, feeding assistance, and hydration (serving provided meals and ensuring patient is provided nutritional care daily).
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of patient rooms and bathrooms to maintain clinical cleanliness standards.
- Change bed linens and maintain clean bedding.
- Provide on-site laundry services for patient clothing and linens.
Disinfect high-touch surfaces per protocol.
- Manage waste removal and biohazard materials according to training and program guidelines and coordination with outside providers.
- Ensure patient rooms remain uncluttered and arranged to reduce fall risk.
- Support room turnover between patient stays.
- Monitor for infection control concerns and report immediately
- Assist with transfers, including bed to chair and bathroom support, as needed.
- Encourage patient mobility to ensure health and recovery including wound healing.
- Observe and report changes in mobility, skin integrity, or overall condition to supervisor or clinical staff.
- Document completed tasks per program protocol.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members both at Curry and with outside partner organizations.
- Provide occasional support with coordination needs, food distribution, or social support as directed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to maintain strict patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Experience providing hands-on personal care such as home health, IHSS, CNA, medical respite care, or similar.CPR certification or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, walking upstairs, laundry and cleaning duties (please see Physical Requirements below).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including rotating weekend shifts (this program operates seven days per week).
- Proof of negative or inactive TB required. Curry Senior Center will provide or reimburse for the cost of a TB test after an offer of employment has been accepted by both parties. Proof of a negative TB test within 90 days will also be accepted.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES:
- Experience in medical respite, hospital medical care, shelter health, or public health settings.
- Familiarity with infection control and sanitation practices.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations.
- Effective oral and written communications skills with the ability to express ideas in a clear, thorough, concise manner.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Solid aptitude for customer service.
- High degree of skill in grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workflow.
- High level of analytical problem-solving skills.
- Excellent time management skills, including the ability to manage self-development.
- Must be action-oriented and have the ability to work independently and as a team player.
- Strong computer skills such as Chrome, Google suite, Apple iOS, Office suite.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS:
The incumbent is in a non-confined clinic-type setting in which they are free to move about at will. The Environment is mostly clean and comfortable but may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc. Work will be performed utilizing a computer, sitting at a desk/chair or standing while speaking and interacting with clients. Position will require average finger dexterity to operate normal office equipment and systems.
