Position Overview
Young Management & Consulting (YMC) is seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled Data Analyst to support a major utility client within its Engineering & Construction organization. This position will work closely with the Business Analytics & Financial Reporting team to develop, enhance, and maintain business intelligence solutions that provide actionable insights and improve data-driven decision-making.
The successful candidate will leverage strong SQL, Power BI, Power Query, data modeling, and analytical skills to compile and analyze large data sets, automate reporting processes, develop dashboards, identify trends, and improve the quality and accessibility of business information.

Key ResponsibilitiesData Analysis & Business Intelligence
- Collect, analyze, and interpret complex data sets to identify trends, patterns, relationships, and actionable business insights.
- Analyze large volumes of information across multiple databases, systems, tables, and business functions.
- Develop and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards, reports, scorecards, and visualizations to support Engineering & Construction leadership and business stakeholders.
- Translate business requirements into effective analytical solutions and reporting tools.
- Conduct ad hoc analysis in response to operational, financial, engineering, and management requests.
- Present complex data and analytical findings in a clear and understandable format for both technical and non-technical audiences.
SQL, Data Modeling & ETL
- Write, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, including joins, unions, aggregations, subqueries, and data transformations.
- Extract and combine data from multiple sources to create accurate and reliable reporting data sets.
- Develop and maintain robust data models supporting dashboards, financial reporting, operational metrics, and business intelligence applications.
- Support ETL processes used to extract, transform, and load information between source systems and reporting environments.
- Utilize Power Query to transform, clean, combine, and automate data preparation activities.
- Assist with the automation of recurring reports and manual data processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Data Quality & Validation
- Conduct data research to identify inconsistencies, discrepancies, gaps, and anomalies.
- Investigate and resolve data discrepancies across multiple systems and reporting sources.
- Identify data quality issues and work with business and technical stakeholders to develop sustainable solutions.
- Perform data validation and reconciliation to ensure the accuracy and integrity of dashboards and reports.
- Develop repeatable processes and controls to improve overall data reliability.
Reporting & Business Support
- Partner with Engineering, Construction, Finance, Project Management, and other stakeholders to understand reporting and analytical requirements.
- Develop reporting solutions that provide visibility into business performance, project activity, financial metrics, and operational trends.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through enhanced analytics, automation, and reporting capabilities.
- Maintain documentation related to data sources, business rules, reporting processes, and analytical methodologies.
- Provide analytical support for special projects and business initiatives as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3+ years of professional data analytics, business intelligence, or reporting experience.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience writing SQL queries, including extensive use of joins and unions.
- Strong experience working with Oracle SQL Server and/or Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Extensive experience with Microsoft Power BI and dashboard development.
- Strong proficiency with Power Query for data transformation and preparation.
- Working knowledge of data modeling, relational databases, and ETL processes.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze large and complex data sets from multiple sources.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail with a strong focus on data accuracy and quality.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Python for data analysis, automation, or data manipulation.
- Experience with advanced Power BI functionality, including DAX, data modeling, and report optimization.
- Experience automating recurring reporting and data-processing activities.
- Familiarity with financial reporting, project controls, or operational analytics.
- Experience working with engineering, construction, utilities, energy, or infrastructure organizations.
- Understanding of project-based environments and the ability to analyze project cost, schedule, performance, and operational data.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Data Analyst who can work with complex and sometimes imperfect data, determine what the information is telling the business, and build reporting solutions that make those insights easy to understand and act upon.
This individual should be equally comfortable writing SQL, building Power BI dashboards, investigating data discrepancies, working with business stakeholders, and developing solutions that improve reporting efficiency and data quality. Experience within the utility, energy, engineering, or construction industries is highly desirable.
