Job Summary
City-Flats Hotel, located in the heart of downtown Grand Rapids, seeks a Cook for our Banquet & Events department to assist the Banquet Chef with event preparation and execution. Culinary Artists will assist with taking an ongoing inventory of ingredients to ensure nothing is running low, prepping ingredients, preparing dishes, assisting the dishwasher, and executing BEOs in a timely manner for special events. A successful candidate will have a positive attitude and will take on all duties asked by the Banquet Chef and Event Management. The position will be mainly Friday and Saturday evenings. Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a diverse range of menu items tailored to event specifications, ensuring consistency and quality.
- Collaborate with event planners and catering teams to develop menu options that meet client preferences and dietary needs.
- Handle food preparation tasks including chopping, portioning, plating, and garnishing to ensure attractive presentation.
- Maintain strict adherence to food safety standards and proper food handling procedures at all times.
- Assist in kitchen setup, breakdown, and sanitation to uphold a clean and organized work environment.
- Support catering operations by serving food efficiently and professionally during events.
- Demonstrate excellent knife skills and culinary techniques to enhance meal quality and presentation.
Requirements
- Proven experience in dietary departments or as a dietary aide is highly desirable.
- Strong background in menu planning, food preparation, cooking, and food service within the food industry or restaurant settings.
- Demonstrated culinary experience with fine dining or catering environments preferred.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper food handling practices is essential.
- Skilled in meal preparation, food handling, and serving techniques with excellent knife skills.
- Previous kitchen experience in a restaurant or catering operation is highly valued.
