American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry position at a Level IV Trauma Center in Cudahy, WI, requiring at least 1 year of Med/Surg or telemetry experience on 12-hour night shifts.

Position is based on a Med/Surg unit (2nd Floor) within a 100-bed Level IV Trauma Center located in Cudahy, WI, approximately 20 minutes from Milwaukee

28-bed unit with an average daily census of 20–22 patients
-
Patient population is primarily geriatric with cardiac (CHF, chest pain obs), neurological (seizure/stroke obs, TIA, altered mental status), and general medical (COPD, respiratory, kidney, liver, GI) diagnoses
-
No Cath Lab on site; patients requiring cardiac catheterization are transferred to a sister facility
-
Night shift RN-to-patient ratios are 1:6–7, occasionally up to 1:8

12-hour night shifts, 1900–0730, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

50% of assigned holidays must be worked per contract

Floating may occur to other Med/Surg units or Med/Surg patient assignments elsewhere in the hospital, including ER hold and ICU — Med/Surg patient assignment only

EMR: Epic

IV pumps: Alaris; medication dispensing: Pyxis

Centralized telemetry monitoring with tele techs; central monitor also located at the nurses' station

Active WI or compact RN license required
-
Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred
-
Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg or telemetry nursing experience, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Proficiency with NG tube placement and management, Foley placement and management, chest tube management, Pleurex and other drains, wound care, and central line/port/midline blood draws
-
Cardiac rhythm interpretation required
-
Experience titrating drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and insulin
-
At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN collected within the last year

Orientation includes a facility NEO session and one 12-hour shift on the unit

Schedule is set in 6-week increments and released approximately 3 weeks before the start of each cycle; RTO requests go through the manager

Support staff includes a Charge RN with a reduced patient assignment, HUC until 2300, 24/7 hospitalist and respiratory therapy coverage, phlebotomy for peripheral lab draws, and OT/PT/ST during daytime hours

Scrubs must be a solid color and professional in appearance — no graphics, logos, denim, or designs
