POSITION IDENTIFICATION
Title: Short-Term Green Box Site Attendant
Supervisor: Refuse Foreman

Pay Grade: 7 (Salary Range $17.70 - $ 21.70) Non-Exempt
Shifts: Two 8-hour shifts per week on Friday and Saturday during summer hours; fills in on full-time workers’ vacation and sick time.
ASSIGNED DUTIES AND TASKS
Position overview: This position is responsible for maintaining Park County Green Box sites and operating the compactor and backhoe. Also responsible for keeping the site in compliance with regulations, rules and policies. This includes keeping them litter-free, and properly maintaining the site using equipment such as a weed whacker, rake, shovel, utilizing a nail magnet and lawn mower where necessary. Fence repairs and other occasional duties may arise. Communication is key to coordinate the most efficient use of refuse truck drivers for pick up at the site.
All duties below are essential functions unless otherwise indicated. Duties of the position are not all inclusive and subject to change.
- Ensures legal use of site. Operates Compactor safely and efficiently. Provides good customer service with an educational approach to proper refuse handling. Deals with the public in a fair, courteous and positive manner thus maintaining positive relations with the public. Assesses and forecasts needs for ordering new compactor bodies, roll off containers and recycle bins to assure that there is always an empty container for community use. Maintain an awareness of mis-sorted refuse and re-sort in proper places to ensure when driver arrives, they can be in and out of the site quickly.
- Keeps areas clean and ensures boxes are sorted and not abused. Work at other sites when requested and keep them clear of paper and cardboard. Ensures site is functional during bad weather including snow removal in winter.
- Is reliable and punctual to ensure the site is opened and closed in a timely manner.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED: is available seasonally to cover for full time caretaker’s time off. Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability necessary. The position requires the ability speak effectively and courteously with the public and co-workers.
Education and Experience: The knowledge and skills normally obtained through a High School Diploma, GED or HiSET. Candidate needs experience working with the public, and a good driving record is preferred.
Certifications: Class D Driver’s license, defensive driving class, First Aid Certification, CPR Certification, and Hazardous Material Training. Some of these may be obtained after employment.
Other skills and abilities: Must have the ability to operate weed eater, rake, shovel, hammer,
nail magnet and lawnmower. Ability to operate heavy equipment loaders is helpful.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The position requires that these job duties are completed timely and accurately with regard to verification of permits and legal use of site. They must represent Park County in a positive manner at all times. Also is responsible for the public safety at the site including proper care of brush, wood and ash.

The position requires handling non-public confidential information. The person in the position acknowledges the confidential nature of non-public information regarding county employees and elected officials. INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION
This position carries out assignments independently, and uses some judgment and initiative to communicate problems and schedule trucks for proper safety at the site. May work to develop and recommend new processing procedures in response to identifying process inefficiencies, frequent errors, etc. Work objectives and priorities are defined by Supervisor.
PERSONAL CONTACTS
This position has contacts with the public, county personnel, elected officials, department heads, and vendors in order to be responsive to questions and inquiries regarding refuse.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit, climb and balance. They frequently are required to kneel, stoop, crouch or crawl, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with arms and hands. The employee is regularly required to stand or walk. Lifting requirements are occasional for lifting and moving up to 100 pounds with lifting aids and leverage. Sometimes while working alone.
The position requires the following vision requirements: close vision (clear up to 20 inches), distance vision (clear up to 20 feet), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (3-dimensional including spatial relationships) and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
