The Equipment & Fleet Mechanic is responsible for keeping First Choice Construction Company's small engine equipment and fleet vehicles in safe, reliable working conditions. This includes saws, compactors, generators, mixers, and other gas- and diesel-powered tools, as well as company fleet vehicles such as F-150s and delivery trucks. Based out of the warehouse and working closely with the Warehouse Manager and Equipment & Operations Coordinator, this role diagnoses and repairs equipment and vehicle issues, performs routine preventive maintenance, and maintains accurate service records to minimize downtime and keep field crews and deliveries running on schedule.

Diagnose small engine failures and malfunctions on equipment such as saws, Hydro Mobiles, mixers, and related power equipment

Perform timely repairs to minimize equipment downtime and keep crews supplied with functioning tools

Troubleshoot mechanical, fuel, electrical, and ignition system issues to identify root causes

Determine when equipment should be repaired versus replaced, and communicate recommendations to the Warehouse Manager

Test repaired equipment to confirm proper operation before returning it to service

Perform routine maintenance on small engines, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tuneups

Follow manufacturerrecommended maintenance schedules for all small engine equipment

Inspect belts, blades, spark plugs, air filters, and fuel systems, and replace components as needed

Sharpen or replace saw blades and other wear components to maintain cutting performance

Clean, lubricate, and store equipment properly to extend service life

Perform routine maintenance on company fleet vehicles, including F150s and delivery trucks — oil changes, filter replacements, brake inspections, tire rotations, and fluid checks

Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and drivability issues on fleet vehicles to minimize downtime

Track fleet vehicle maintenance schedules and proactively flag upcoming service needs to the Warehouse Manager

Conduct pretrip and posttrip inspections in coordination with drivers, and address any issues identified

Coordinate outside repairs or dealership service for work beyond inhouse capability, and track vehicle status through completion

Maintain accurate service and inspection records for each fleet vehicle

Maintain accurate records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used for each piece of equipment

Log service history and equipment condition in company maintenance tracking systems

Track parts and supply usage, and flag reorder needs to the Warehouse Manager

Document recurring equipment issues and report trends to support fleet replacement planning
Team Collaboration & Equipment Readiness

Collaborate with the Warehouse Manager, Equipment & Operations Coordinator, and field crews to ensure equipment is ready for use when needed

Coordinate with drivers and warehouse staff on equipment pickup, dropoff, and staging for project sites

Prioritize repair and maintenance work based on project schedules and equipment demand

Communicate equipment status and estimated repair timelines clearly to warehouse and field personnel

Support emergency equipment repair requests from active job sites as needed

Minimum 2 years of experience repairing and maintaining small engines in a construction, industrial, landscaping, or equipment rental setting

Minimum 2 years of experience performing routine maintenance and repairs on lightduty trucks and fleet vehicles

Working knowledge of twostroke and fourstroke gas engines as well as diesel small engines

Demonstrated ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, and fuel system issues accurately on both small engines and vehicles

Ability to read and follow equipment and vehicle manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer service specifications

Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision

Valid driver's license with clean driving record

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States

Ability to pass background check and drug screening

Proficiency using standard mechanic's hand tools, diagnostic equipment, and shop equipment

Physical Demands: This position requires Work in a warehouse and outdoor yard environment in varying weather conditions. It routinely requires periods of standing, bending, kneeling, and work in confined equipment spaces for extended periods. The employee must frequently use hands and fingers to operate machinery, equipment, and tools. The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds regularly and wear required PPE for extended periods.

Work Environment: This position splits time between the warehouse and the outdoor yard, with occasional travel to project sites for onsite repairs. Work is regularly performed outdoors and is subject to seasonal heat, cold, rain and other outdoor weather conditions. The role requires comfort working in personal protective equipment for extended periods and around running equipment, vehicles, and machinery.
