Responsibilities
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup.
- Conduct initial patient assessments by reviewing medical histories, vital signs, and current dental concerns.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using dental imaging equipment while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong oral health.
- Assist the dentist during examinations, procedures, and chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry techniques to maximize efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix), ensuring HIPAA compliance and confidentiality.
- Follow infection prevention protocols, including aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures for dental equipment, to uphold the highest standards of infection control.
Skills
- Proficiency with dental software systems such as Eaglesoft and Dentrix for scheduling, documentation review, and medical coding.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, medical terminology, and general dentistry procedures.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry practices and providing care tailored to children’s needs.
- Skilled in taking dental X-rays (dental x-ray), interpreting images, and ensuring radiation safety protocols are followed.
- Excellent client communication skills with the ability to educate patients effectively about dental care practices.
- Ability to perform patient assessments accurately while maintaining a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Familiarity with healthcare infection prevention and control standards, including HIPAA compliance management.
