Jacobs & Schlesinger LLP is hiring an experienced Immigration Attorney to join our removal defense practice in San Diego. This is a role for a litigator at heart—someone who loves being in Immigration Court and thrives on every stage of defending clients, from the first master calendar hearing through individual merits hearings and appeals. Responsibilities
- Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court (EOIR), including master calendar, individual merits hearings, and bond hearings.
- Represent clients before the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA).
- Practice before the Federal District Court on petitions for writs of habeas corpus, writs of mandamus, and Administrative Procedure Act (APA) actions.
- Assist our Appellate Partner with supplemental stay motions before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
- Prepare and file persuasive briefs, motions, and applications for relief.
- Develop case strategy and guide clients through every stage of the removal defense process.
- Communicate directly with Spanish-speaking clients regarding their cases.
- Mentor more junior attorneys and paralegals.
- Stay current on evolving immigration law and court procedures.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) and admission to a state bar in good standing.
- At least 4 years of hands-on experience practicing in Immigration Court, with a strong removal defense track record.
- A genuine passion for litigation and the courtroom.
- Fluency in Spanish (required).
- Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills.
