Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing routine maintenance, minor repairs, and facility support across Wateree Community Actions, Inc. (WCAI) programs and properties, including but not limited to Head Start, Early Head Start, housing, administrative offices, and other agency-operated facilities. The position supports safe, functional, well-maintained environments in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, licensing standards, funding source requirements, and agency policies.
This is an agency-wide position designed to support multiple programs through shared services and allowable cost allocation practices consistent with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Uniform Guidance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine building maintenance and minor repairs across WCAI-owned or operated facilities, including:
o Changing light bulbs, ballasts, and fixtures
o Basic plumbing (faucets, toilets, clogs)
o Minor electrical repairs (switches, outlets, fixtures)
o Door, lock, hinge, and hardware repairs
o Drywall patching and minor painting
- Conduct scheduled facility inspections to identify maintenance, safety, and compliance concerns.
- Respond to maintenance requests from all agency programs and prioritize work orders based on urgency, safety risk, and operational impact.
- Assist with setup and movement of furniture, equipment, and materials in classrooms, offices, and program spaces.
- Maintain grounds through light landscaping, trash removal, and exterior upkeep.
- Support compliance with applicable standards, including Head Start Performance Standards, housing requirements, workplace safety regulations, and local licensing rules.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, time spent by program or facility, materials used, and repairs completed to support cost allocation and audit documentation.
- Coordinate with supervisors and approved vendors for repairs exceeding the scope of routine maintenance.
- Safely operate, store, and maintain tools and equipment.
- Follow all WCAI policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Travel between multiple agency locations as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance, facilities, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to pass applicable background checks.

- Vocational or technical training in maintenance or a related trade.
- Experience working in educational, childcare, housing, or community-based facilities.
- HVAC, facilities management, or contractor experience.
