JOB Under the direction of the Assistant Street Superintendent. Fabricates, installs, repairs, and removes traffic control signs/street name signs, and other types of signs as requested by other city departments. This position is a bargaining unit position with the United SteelWorkers Union. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
- Fabricates, installs, repairs, and removes traffic control signs/street name signs, and other types of signs as requested by other city departments

Performs on-site inspections (e.g., sidewalk form work & final, driveway approach form work & final) on commercial & residential properties to ensure compliance with approved plans & all applicable codes & ordinances

Receive & investigate complaints from homeowners, contractors & city officials during & after construction

Answer inquiries regarding city standard drawings, construction methods, practices & procedures for sidewalks, approaches & wheelchair ramps

Operate motor vehicle to travel to inspection sites

Utilize field equipment (e.g, tape measure, smart level, digital camera)

Prepares & maintains various work related documents (e.g., maintains daily inspection log, prepares correspondence, enters inspection results into database)

Maintains sidewalk & driveway approach replacement project manuals & related correspondence
-
Forward any changes to work needing completed by homeowners to city engineer for change to project sheets
-
Works closely with building department staff to verify that permits have been issued for all projects
-
Mows right-of-ways, cemeteries, and vacant lots using riding mowers, push mowers, and weed eaters

Participates in the snow removal operations using front-end loader and single axle dump truck
-
Works overtime as required to continue essential City services

Performs a wide variety of work as required by the city administration (e.g., cuts and/or trims trees, decorates municipal complex for Christmas, puts up/removes flags for holidays)

Picks up dead animals
-
Picks up and/or sweeps up trash/debris
-
Lays gravel in berms along unpaved streets
-
Fills pot holes with cold patch
-
Washes vehicles/equipment
-
Troubleshoot & makes minor repairs to traffic light system

Remains informed of current developments & procedures
-
Attends staff meetings
-
Maintains required licenses and/or certificates

Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions
