Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable professional to join our educational team as a District Special Education Consultant. This full-time position is essential for providing guidance, support, and resources to improve the quality of special education services across the district. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with educators, administrators, and families to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, promote best practices, and enhance the educational experience for students with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with school staff to develop, implement, and evaluate Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide training and professional development for teachers and staff on special education laws, policies, and best practices.
- Assist in the development and implementation of district-wide special education initiatives and programs.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of special education services and make recommendations for improvement.
- Serve as a resource for school personnel in addressing the needs of students with disabilities, including behavioral and academic challenges.
- Facilitate communication between families, educators, and external service providers to ensure a coordinated approach to support.
- Stay current with state and federal regulations related to special education and ensure district compliance.
- Participate in the assessment and identification process for students suspected of having disabilities.
- Advocate for the needs of students with disabilities within the district and community.
- Prepare reports and documentation related to special education services and outcomes.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Special Education, Education Administration, or a related field.
- Valid state certification in Special Education or a related area.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in special education, with a demonstrated understanding of best practices and legal requirements.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state special education laws and regulations, including IDEA and Section 504.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven ability to provide effective training and support to educators and staff.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
