Job Description:
Role Overview
The Sanitation Team Member keeps our facility food-safe and audit-ready every day. This hands-on role is responsible for the daily cleaning and sanitizing of production equipment, food-contact surfaces, and facility areas per our Master Sanitation Schedule, supporting our SQF, Organic, and Gluten-Free certifications. The Sanitation Team Member works alongside Production and QA, supports pre-operational inspections, and plays a key role in protecting product quality and food safety.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Sanitation:
- Perform daily cleaning and sanitizing of all food-contact surfaces, equipment, utensils, and small tools per the Master Sanitation Schedule.
- Sweep, mop, and sanitize production floors, walls, and drains at the end of each shift.
- Clean and sanitize employee welfare areas (restrooms, breakrooms, handwashing stations) daily.
- Disassemble equipment for deep cleaning as scheduled, including weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks.
Chemical Handling and Safety:
- Use only approved, food-grade cleaning and sanitizing chemicals; follow label dwell times and rinse instructions.
- Store, label, and handle chemicals per SDS and company policy; wear required PPE (gloves, eye protection, apron).
- Use color-coded cleaning tools and keep them in sanitary condition between uses.
- Report damaged tools, missing labels, or unsafe chemical conditions immediately.
Recordkeeping and Compliance:
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly sanitation logs in full and on time.
- Document chemical usage and monitor chemical inventory levels.
- Support QA pre-operational inspections; correct non-conformances and re-clean before production release.
Pest Control Support:
- Inspect the facility daily for signs of pests and report findings to the Plant Manager and QA.
- Keep waste areas clean and waste containers sealed.
- Coordinate with the contracted pest control vendor during site visits.
Teamwork and GMPs:
- Coordinate sanitation start and finish times with the Production Supervisor on shift.
- Support the QA team during environmental monitoring (ATP, allergen, and pathogen swabs).
- Follow all GMP and personal hygiene requirements (uniform, hairnet, gloves, jewelry restrictions, handwashing).
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior sanitation or food manufacturing experience is a plus, not required.
- Ability to read and follow SOPs, chemical labels, and SDS sheets.
- Basic understanding of food safety and quality standards (e.g., GMPs) preferred.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, bend, reach, and lift up to 40 lbs.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position; shift-based schedule. Sanitation runs when production is down, so occasional earlier, end-of-day, or weekend hours may be required.
- Mobile clock-in/clock-out system to be maintained accurately at all times.
- Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, including exposure to cleaning chemicals, varying temperatures, noise levels, and food production equipment. Required PPE provided.
- Requires the ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 40lbs.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
