PURPOSE
The purpose of the Public Educator position is to provide education and collaboration that advances awareness and prevention of sexual and domestic violence and related issues and reflects the strategic direction and mission of the organization.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. PUBLIC EDUCATION: Provides public outreach and education on issues related to sexual and domestic violence, abuse, harassment, trafficking and healthy relationships that support the strategic direction and mission of the organization.
2. COMMUNITY RELATIONS: Collaborates with community partners to promote and strengthen public education efforts.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or related field
- Two years of experience in prevention, education or related field
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Demonstrated effective public speaking and written communication is essential
- Collaborative work style
- Ability to analyze research findings and translate evidence into practical recommendations for curriculum development and implementation
- Clear understanding of the differences between risk reduction and primary prevention approaches to intimate partner and sexual violence prevention
- Clear understanding of differences between pedagogy and andragogy
- Knowledge of sexual and intimate partner violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Ability to select and use appropriate training/instructional methods and adapt as needed for varied situations.
- Knowledge of group behavior and dynamics, societal trends and influences, ethnicity, cultures and their history.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

RESPONSIBILITIES
PUBLIC EDUCATION: Provides public outreach and education on issues related to sexual and domestic violence, abuse, harassment, trafficking and healthy relationships that support the strategic direction and mission of the organization.
- Demonstrates a commitment to staying current on emerging issues and ongoing
- professional development.
- Presents education in various settings, primarily K-12, community events, organizational training (external), workshops, etc.
- Presents customized presentations, as applicable
- Collaborates in the planning and organizing of public awareness campaigns and events
- Develops and distributes educational materials, promotional materials and other educational material, in coordination with other staff
COMMUNITY RELATIONS: Collaborates with community partners to promote and strengthen public education efforts.
- Participates, as a representative of the organization, in prevention and education related events, task forces and group meetings in the community
- Builds and maintains relationships with community partners in prevention
- Works collaboratively to identify barriers, and to promote education and awareness to enhance outcomes for disenfranchised populations
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires communicating clearly, seeing/observing, hearing/listening, thinking, talking, concentrating, and reading. Work is primarily in a climate controlled area. Regular daily travel is required to local schools and agencies or organizations; occasional out-of-town and out-of-state travel is required for meetings and trainings.
EVALUATION
The performance of the Public Educator will be evaluated annually by the Prevention Education Supervisor according to pre-determined objectives and policies.

Pay: $41,600.00 - $49,920.00 per year
