Just Friends Adult Day Services is a nonprofit that provides a place for disabled and/or socially isolated adults to spend the day. Drivers at Just Friends transport people to and from the Center to their home. This position is a split shift position for up to 16 hours a week (3-4 days). Drivers typically drive 3-4 hours in the morning and 3-4 hours in the afternoon. Just Friends is open to an employee who would drive all day or AM/PM only.
PURPOSE OF POSITION: Safely transport participants to and from Just Friends in a friendly, timely, and professional manner using Just Friends low-floor minivans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
1. Transport participants to and from the Center daily as scheduled. Drive for special events as requested.
2. Provide door to door transportation, including assistance in and out of vehicle when appropriate.
3. Maintain security for passengers at all times by using the wheelchair locks, safety belts, and other measures defined in the Policies and Procedures Manual.
4. Maintain cleanliness of vehicle and full fuel tank.
5. Check routine operating systems weekly: brakes, turn signals, tire pressure, windshield wipers, lights, backup lights, etc. to ensure safe operation.
6. Maintain records as mandated by funding sources.
7. Report any incidents of neglect, abuse or other significant condition/change to the Nurse or Social Worker.
9. Practice environmental safety and sanitation; administer first aid or CPR if a participant being transported needs assistance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience:
· Current First Aid and CPR training
· Experience driving a van or other large vehicle
· Experience with people living with a disability preferred
Special requirements:
· Valid driver’s license
· No traffic citations within the past three years
Skills/Abilities/Knowledge:
· Ability to assist individuals with physical and cognitive impairments while transporting, including pushing and manipulating wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility aids
· Ability to maintain confidentiality of participants and staff
· Ability to follow directions and/or street signs to locate homes of participants
· Ability to work independently and take responsibility
· Ability to exercise good judgment
· Ability to maintain patience and flexibility with people and work schedules
· Ability to interact effectively, professionally, and compassionately with adults living with a disability
Other requirements: dependable attendance. Must not pose a threat to self or others in performance of duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Light and occasionally heavy work
Work involves routine exertion of up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull, and otherwise help individuals move to and from vans. Involves bending, squatting, reaching, moving about most of the time.
This position involves withstanding extreme temperatures and inclement weather. Could involve negotiating steps and rough and uneven surfaces.
Could involve administering CPR in the event of a cardio/respiratory arrest of participant in the process of being transported.
EQUIPMENT OR MACHINERY REQUIRED TO OPERATE includes, but not limited to:
Motor vehicle, motor vehicle safety devices, equipment used in maintaining the mechanical operation of vehicles, gas pumps, first aid equipment, emergency road equipment, wheelchairs, walkers, telephones, maps, ridership logs.
