Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial trucks with manual transmissions across designated routes, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations
- Load and unload freight using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off mechanisms, ensuring proper handling of various cargo types including refrigerated goods, flatbed loads, tankers, and freight requiring special handling
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns
- Plan efficient routes to optimize delivery times and fuel consumption while maintaining schedule integrity
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, deliveries, and vehicle inspections in compliance with federal and state regulations
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, customers, and team members regarding delivery schedules or any issues encountered during routes
- Assist with loading or securing freight on different truck types such as dump trucks or flatbeds when necessary
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial driving with a valid CDL A license; familiarity with manual transmission vehicles is essential
- Experience operating various truck types including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, and roll-off trucks
- Strong knowledge of load securing techniques and freight handling procedures
- Ability to drive safely over long distances while managing route schedules effectively
- Skilled in using forklift equipment for loading/unloading when required
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members and clients
- Physical ability to load/unload freight manually or with equipment; comfortable working in diverse weather conditions
