Certified Medical Biller & Coder
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Certified Medical Biller & Coder to support our growing outpatient psychiatric and behavioral health practice. This position is responsible for ensuring accurate coding, claim submission, reimbursement optimization, denial management, and regulatory compliance while supporting exceptional patient care.
Position Summary
The Certified Medical Biller & Coder will oversee the revenue cycle process, including insurance verification support, charge entry, coding audits, claims management, payment posting, denial resolution, and reporting. The ideal candidate has experience with psychiatric and behavioral health billing, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining compliance with payer and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Review and assign appropriate ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for psychiatric and behavioral health services
- Submit and monitor electronic insurance claims
- Identify, investigate, and resolve claim denials and rejections
- Post insurance and patient payments accurately
- Verify payer requirements, authorizations, and documentation standards
- Conduct routine chart audits to ensure coding accuracy and compliance
- Monitor accounts receivable and assist with collections follow-up
- Communicate with insurance carriers regarding claim status and appeals
- Work closely with providers and administrative staff to resolve billing discrepancies
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, payer regulations, and coding guidelines
- Generate and review revenue cycle reports, trends, and key performance indicators
- Assist leadership in identifying opportunities to improve reimbursement and operational efficiency
Qualifications
Required:
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS), or equivalent certification
- Minimum 2 years of medical billing and coding experience
- Knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and insurance billing practices
- Experience working with commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Preferred:
- Experience in psychiatry, behavioral health, psychology, or outpatient medical practices
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) and practice management systems
- Experience with credentialing and payer enrollment processes
- Knowledge of psychiatric testing, therapy, medication management, Spravato, TMS, or other behavioral health service billing

Pay: $24.59 - $31.73 per hour
