- Role: Collects blood and other patient specimens from Wichita area nursing homes.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Performs venipuncture on patients.
- Identifies and labels specimens.
- Order entry and computer work.
- Collect throat culture specimens.
- Collect nasopharengeal swabs for RSV or flu
- Centrifuge and process the specimen for the technician
- Delivers laboratory reports to physicians and nurses.
- Inventories supplies and re‑stocks laboratory work station.
- Obtains blood specimens at nursing homes, home bound patients and other facilities
- Pick-up specimen from client locations through-out the metro area
- Available to work early mornings weekdays, weekends when on call.
- Cross train with the in house phlebotomist to process specimens and close.

1. Maintain professional and friendly atmosphere for patients and co‑workers.
2. Abide by all safety policies.
3. Achieve competence in both venipuncture procedures for both pediatric and adult patients.
4. Maintains patient confidentiality.
5. Properly follows procedures to confirm patient identity.
6. Able to efficiently deliver specimens to main lab and understands importance of specimen integrity.
7. Properly labels all specimens collected.
8. Abide by Heartland Pathology policies and guidelines.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experience: Must have 1 year phlebotomy experience.
Education: Equivalent to a high school education.
Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization, generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion
Physical Requirements Lifts and carries items weighing up to 20 lbs., must have a valid driver’s license.
