We are seeking an experienced Commercial Superintendent to lead the day-to-day field operations of commercial construction projects in the Winston-Salem area. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe, productive, and well-organized jobsite while ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with the contract documents, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on construction leader who takes ownership of the project site, communicates effectively with project management and trade partners, and has a strong understanding of commercial construction practices. Experience managing complex ground-up and renovation projects, particularly in institutional, healthcare, education, office, retail, or other commercial environments, is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership and direction for field operations on assigned commercial construction projects.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily construction activities to maintain project schedules and production goals.
- Work closely with the Project Manager to develop and maintain the project schedule and identify potential delays or issues before they impact the project.
- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
- Review plans, specifications, shop drawings, and other contract documents to identify conflicts, constructability concerns, and field issues.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized jobsite and enforce company and project-specific safety requirements.
- Conduct regular quality-control inspections and ensure work is completed in accordance with project specifications and applicable building codes.
- Lead daily and weekly subcontractor coordination meetings and communicate upcoming activities, site constraints, and project requirements.
- Monitor manpower, materials, equipment, and productivity to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Coordinate site logistics, deliveries, material handling, temporary facilities, and access requirements.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, project documentation, schedules, and field records.
- Work with the Project Manager to identify and resolve RFIs, change orders, and other field-related issues.
- Communicate regularly with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
- Identify potential schedule, quality, safety, and cost issues and take appropriate corrective action.
- Mentor and provide direction to Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, and other field personnel.
- Represent the company professionally with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
- Participate in project planning, preconstruction meetings, turnover activities, and closeout as required.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in commercial construction, with progressive field supervision responsibilities.
- Proven experience as a Superintendent on commercial construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of commercial construction means and methods, sequencing, scheduling, and site logistics.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, MEP, and other construction documents.
- Strong understanding of OSHA requirements and construction safety practices.
- Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and managing complex construction activities.
- Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to anticipate challenges and proactively develop solutions.
- Strong computer skills and familiarity with construction management and scheduling software.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ground-up commercial construction.
- Experience managing projects in the $10M–$50M+ range.
- Experience in healthcare, education, higher education, institutional, office, industrial, or other complex commercial construction.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
- Experience with Procore or similar construction management platforms.
- Strong local knowledge of the Winston-Salem, Triad, and broader North Carolina construction market.
