Job Title: Mental Health Worker Classification: Regular Full-Time
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Department: Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility Division: Residential
Immediate Supervisor: Mental Health Professional/Supervisor
Job Summary:
Provides direct supervision for youth within the residential setting ensuring their safety and maintaining a therapeutic environment and care.
Essential Functions of the Position:
1. Implement individualized behavior and treatment plans developed by the Mental Health Professional.
2. Provide direct supervision of youth intervening as necessary to ensure a safe environment.
3. Assist in design, coordination, and implementation of summer school program.
4. Liaison between Bethesda Children’s Home and involved outside agencies, schools, parents, etc.
5. Liaison between educational program and residential unit staff.
6. Supervision backup on field trips.
7. Maintenance of assigned Bethesda student’s files.
8. Documentation of relevant information.
9. Plan and implement therapeutic groups as designated.
10. Assist with scheduling and planning as needed.
11. Work in conjunction with other staff to form efficient, effective, and cohesive team.
12. Counseling, therapeutic interventions.
13. Supervise client self administration of medication.
14. Assists with campus coverage as needed.
Professional Responsibilities:
1. Understand and fulfill job duties within the scope of the mission statement.
2. Adhere to the policies and procedures of the agency.
3. Maintain professional relationships with agency personnel, medical personnel and
outside agencies.
4. Meet with supervisor biweekly for one-on-one supervision.
5. Act as a positive role model for residents by maintaining a professional demeanor
and ethical behavior at all times.
6. Fulfill training requirements as outlined in the Staff Development policy and as required by the supervisor and/or the program.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to multitask while maintaining a positive demeanor during periods of increased demands on time and attention from multiple students.
2. Possess effective communication skills, both verbal and written. This includes the ability to converse with students and families of various socioeconomic backgrounds in a professional manner.
3. Ability to de-escalate an emotionally charged or potentially violent situation using the least restrictive method possible.
4. Effective counseling skills.
5. Knowledge of education manual, emergency procedures manual, policy and procedures manual and special education regulations.
6. Ability to make independent, well thought out and logical decisions.
Required Education, Experience and Clearances:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services field.
2. One to two years’ experience in the mental health and/or adolescent field preferred.
3. Knowledge of CASSP and special education principles.
4. FBI, Child Abuse History, PA State Police, and Driver Clearances. Other clearances may be required dependent on residency status.
Physical Demands:
1. Lifting requirement of less than 20lbs on an occasional basis.
2. Ability to actively participate in recreational activities such as basketball, swimming,
volleyball and walking.
3. Ability to perform a physical intervention which requires the strength to grasp, hold
and maneuver a resident into various positions involving standing, sitting, kneeling and
laying.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.50 - $18.50 per hour
