Position Overview
The Operations Lead – Shipping & Receiving is responsible for coordinating and supporting the day-to-day activities of the Shipping and Receiving operation to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely movement of materials and finished products. This position serves as a working lead and key point of contact for warehouse and shipping employees, providing direction, coordinating workflow, and helping ensure operational priorities are met.
The Operations Lead works closely with Distribution leadership, Production, Customer Service, Transportation, and other departments to coordinate shipments and receipts, maintain inventory accuracy, resolve operational issues, and support a safe and productive work environment.
This role requires strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing and distribution environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily shipping and receiving activities based on production schedules, customer requirements, and transportation needs.
- Prioritize and assign daily work to shipping and receiving employees based on operational needs.
- Coordinate loading and unloading activities to ensure materials are handled safely and efficiently.
- Verify that shipments are prepared accurately and in accordance with customer, carrier, and company requirements.
- Ensure incoming materials and products are properly received, inspected, identified, and stored.
- Monitor the movement of finished goods and materials throughout the distribution process.
- Coordinate with Production and Distribution leadership regarding product availability and shipment priorities.
- Identify and escalate operational delays, shortages, discrepancies, or other issues that may impact customer shipments.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 2–4 years of experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, distribution, logistics, or manufacturing operations.
- Previous lead or team-lead experience preferred.
- Experience operating or working around forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
- Experience with inventory control and shipping/receiving documentation.
- Basic computer skills and experience working with warehouse or ERP systems.
- Ability to read and understand shipping documents, work instructions, and safety procedures.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SAP or another ERP/WMS system.
- Forklift certification.
- Experience in a steel, wire, manufacturing, or industrial distribution environment.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Experience with inventory cycle counts and reconciliation.
- Experience coordinating transportation or carriers.
- Experience with continuous improvement/5S initiatives.
Pay: From $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
