Position Description
Performs highly skilled transportation related work installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic signs, mailboxes, and delineators in a district. Work includes maintaining inventory and records, ordering of signs and materials, and using specialized tools and equipment related to sign installation. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
May assist in scheduling and assigning work.
May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications.
Trains other technicians on sign installation and safety procedures.
Maintains expense records and inventory of materials, supplies and equipment.
Measures and calculates amount of materials needed.
Operates a boom and bucket truck and/or specialized sign truck to install roadway signs.
Performs and maintains inventory of signs.
Performs preventive maintenance on sign truck.
Repairs and installs signs, supports, foundations and delineators in accordance with Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and other departmental guidance.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Experience: 2 years in sign installation and/or repair, roadway maintenance, construction, transportation engineering support, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Must have a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have obtained a Class "A" CDL , within 120 calendar days from date of employment

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Medium work: Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs
Climbing - ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffoldings, ramps, etc
Kneeling-bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s)
Lifting-raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position
Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words
Hearing-perceive sound at normal speaking levels;receive information by oral communication
Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment
