Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Preoperative/Pacu (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Supervisor to lead and coordinate patient care activities within the preoperative and PACU settings. This vital role involves supervising clinical staff, ensuring adherence to hospital policies, and maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and comfort. Duties
- Supervise daily operations of the Preop and PACU departments, ensuring efficient patient flow and optimal resource utilization
- Lead, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff, fostering a collaborative team environment focused on high-quality care
- Oversee patient assessments including vital signs, physiological evaluations, and medical documentation to ensure accurate and timely care delivery
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, HIPAA regulations, state healthcare laws, and accreditation standards such as NCQA standards
- Coordinate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to prepare patients for procedures and facilitate smooth recovery processes
- Manage medical records using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Cerner or Epic; ensure accuracy in ICD-9/ICD-10 coding and documentation
- Conduct ongoing quality assurance activities including incident reporting, infection control practices, and adherence to nursing policy compliance
Requirements
- Proven supervisory experience in a clinical setting within preoperative or PACU environments
- Extensive critical care experience including ICU or Level I Trauma Center exposure preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, anesthesia procedures, and airway management techniques
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Epic; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is essential
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; additional certifications like ACLS or PALS are advantageous
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including geriatrics, pediatrics, patients with developmental disabilities or dementia care needs
- Knowledge of hospital medicine regulations including HIPAA, long-term care regulations, and anesthesia protocols
- Excellent managerial communication skills; ability to lead multidisciplinary teams effectively while maintaining high standards of patient safety and care quality
