Duties
- Assist orthodontists during various procedures, including bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms with the necessary instruments and materials, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and ready for use following infection control protocols.
- Take and develop dental X-rays and 3D scans while maintaining proper aseptic technique and ensuring patient safety through accurate vital signs monitoring.
- Manage patient records efficiently using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring HIPAA compliance at all times.
- Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored to pediatric dentistry needs.
- Support the dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, updating medical documentation, and assisting with insurance or medical coding as needed.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and specialized procedures in orthodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics, and general dentistry to provide comprehensive support.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a dental clinic environment is highly preferred, especially within pediatric dentistry or orthodontics.
- Proficiency with dental assisting tools and techniques including chairside assisting, X-ray imaging, and infection control practices.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft for managing medical records and documentation.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security.
- Ability to perform vital signs assessment and medical imaging accurately while adhering to aseptic techniques.
- Experience with dental terminology, medical terminology, and understanding of dental procedures across various specialties such as prosthodontics and endodontics is advantageous.
