Duties
- Manage and maintain accurate financial records using QuickBooks, Quicken, and other accounting software platforms such as Sage, Xero, and PeopleSoft.
- Prepare, review, and interpret financial statements, reports, and reconciliations in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulatory standards.
- Perform bank reconciliations, account analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure data integrity across all accounts.
- Conduct accounts payable and receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment scheduling, and collections.
- Assist with payroll processing, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and audit preparation to ensure compliance with SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) requirements.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and financial planning activities to guide strategic decision-making.
- Mentor junior team members on technical accounting concepts such as double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, accrual accounting, and financial concepts.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects involving securities law compliance or nonprofit accounting standards like LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit).
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by optimizing workflows related to general ledger accounting and account reconciliation processes.
Requirements
- Proven experience working with QuickBooks extensively in a professional setting; familiarity with Quicken is a plus.
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles along with experience in corporate or nonprofit accounting environments.
- Knowledge of SOX compliance standards and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis, financial report writing, and financial statement interpretation.
- Experience with other financial software such as Sage, Xero, PeopleSoft or similar platforms is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to perform bank reconciliations, account analysis, journal entries, and balance sheet reconciliation accurately.
- Excellent analytical skills combined with a solid understanding of financial concepts like debits & credits, accruals, and double-entry bookkeeping.
- Ability to mentor team members while managing multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
