The San Diego Unified School District is currently accepting applications for the position of VAPA Enrichment Teacher (Visual Arts & Performing Arts) assigned to support the Visual and Performaing Arts Department. POSITION SPECIFICS:
The Visual and Performing Arts Department has several full-time (1.0 FTE), 10 -month vacancies in various Elementary Schools. Travel to school sites throughout the district is required.
The Visual and Performing Arts Department will be adding numerous elementary teaching positions given increased resources from Proposition 28, passed by the voters in November 2022.
The Visual and Performing Arts Department believes that the arts transform lives and there is much excitement for expanding arts education in the district. Teachers will be hired to teach 1) Performing Arts (Dance, Music and Theater). These teachers will teach all grades, UTK-5, and will serve multiple sites as an Itinerant Teacher. A collaborative spirit will be essential for success in this role and teachers should be open to working closely with colleagues in service of continuous growth and development, to include but not limited to lesson study, action research, classroom observations, etc. Above all candidates should have a firmly developed growth mindset and strong belief that every student possesses unique strengths/genius and that all are capable of finding their artistic voice and developing literacy.
Examples of Duties:
The VAPA Enrichment Teacher (Visual Arts & Performing Arts) assigned to support the Visual and Performaing Arts Department will develop, implement, and provide feedback on subject matter content that will inform San Diego Unified School District's Visual and Performing Arts curriculum scope and sequence. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:
- Presenting subject matter to multiple grade levels according to guidelines established by the Board of Education and administrative regulations.
- Preparing lessons for multiple grades leves that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Assessing student progress across multiple grade levels on objectives, expectations, and/or goals and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration, in addition to providing outcomes during the grade reporting period.
- Collaborating regularly with arts educator peers across schools.
- Participating in site specific committees as appropriate.
- Working with site staff to understand the arts and the role it plays in developing personal and professional skills and abilities.
Education and Experience:
Desired candidates should be willing to participate in ongoing training in foundational and ongoing professional learning and action research. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with grade level, site, and district staff in service of site and district goals and an understanding of high functioning Professional Learning Communities with an emphasis on analyzing student work is highly desired.
Licenses and Other Requirements:
Valid Single Subject Credential in Dance, Music or Theater or Multiple Subject Credential with an authorization in Music, Dance, or Theater by the closing date of the application deadline.

Examination Process
The examination process will consist of an application screening based on the candidate's education, work history and responses to the supplemental questions. Professional References will be contacted for candidates who are selected to proceed in the examination process. Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Candidates selected to proceed in the examination process will be invited to an interview. Applicants who pass the examination process will be placed on an eligible list for a period of one school year. The eligible list will be used to fill vacancies at various school sites.
