Position Summary
The Clinical Social Worker provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive mental health services to transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse individuals across the lifespan. This role supports clients experiencing challenges related to mental health, gender affirmation, housing instability, discrimination, family conflict, substance use, HIV, and other social determinants of health. The Clinical Social Worker works collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff and community partners to promote resilience, well-being, and equitable access to care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual, family, and group psychotherapy using evidence-based, trauma-informed, and gender-affirming approaches.
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments, risk assessments, and treatment planning.
- Deliver crisis intervention and safety planning for clients experiencing acute mental health concerns.
- Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation in accordance with agency, New York State, Medicaid, and HIPAA requirements.
- Coordinate care with medical providers, case managers, psychiatrists, schools, and community organizations.
- Assist clients with referrals to housing, legal, medical, employment, and social support services.
- Advocate for clients' rights and equitable access to gender-affirming healthcare and community resources.
- Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic support groups.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and clinical supervision.
- Contribute to program development, quality improvement initiatives, and community outreach activities.
- Maintain knowledge of current best practices in LGBTQIA+, transgender, and gender-diverse mental health care.
Qualifications
Required
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
- Current New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), with clinical supervision toward LCSW if applicable.
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience providing psychotherapy or behavioral health services.
- Demonstrated experience working with transgender, nonbinary, LGBTQIA+, and other marginalized communities.
- Strong knowledge of trauma-informed care, harm reduction, suicide risk assessment, and crisis intervention.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
Preferred
- Bilingual proficiency - Spanish or another language commonly spoken by the agency's clients).
- Some experience with Medicaid documentation and managed care requirements.
- Experience providing gender-affirming mental health assessments and letters of support consistent with current standards of care.
- Knowledge of HIV care, substance use treatment, and community-based behavioral health services.
