Position Title: Director of Shelter Programs
Salary Range: $43,000 to $52,000 annually
Status: Full time exempt – Member of the Management Team
Job Qualifications
- Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling and a combination of two (2) years professional experience with children, in a children’s residential facility and in administration or supervision;
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling and a combination of three (3) years professional experience with children, in a children’s residential facility and in administration or supervision.
- Bachelor’s degree and a combination of four (4) years of professional experience with children, in a children’s residential facility and in administration or supervision.
Preference
- Knowledge and skills in counseling principles and awareness of the needs of socially and emotionally maladjusted children and families.
- Three to five years, experience working with youth in a community based residential care program, with at least two years supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in individual service planning, managing a large clinical case load of individuals and families as well as program planning and design.
- Strong documentation skills as well as ability to manage daily staff scheduling.
Job Description
- Plans, designs, and implements clinical programs that support positive youth development, address risk-factors and developmental challenges experienced by youth and families, and support the goal of family reunification where possible.
- Identifies and facilitates a staff development program that continually builds staff expertise in the areas of positive youth development and clinical counseling skills.
- Prepare and monitor staff schedules and ensure that clinical needs of residents are met and that a “client centric” shelter milieu is maintained.
- Responsible for hiring, training, assigning, supervising and evaluating counseling staff for the shelter program.
- Complete yearly evaluations on all shelter staff.
- Conducts team treatment reviews as well as general staff meetings to facilitate communication and build a culture of continual quality improvement and ensure clinical standards are consistent in all facilities.
- Identify training partners that may contribute to the therapeutic milieu (i.e., psychoeducational groups, recreational programs, educational programs) and ensure the quality of the programs/partnerships and their seamless integration into the shelter milieu.
- Insure all local, federal and state regulations are met and participates as a key member in the management team to address needed improvements, enhancements or changes that may be required or desired to meet/exceed current standards and best practices.
- Provide a system of coverage for emergency situations and staff absences, and is available as necessary to activate the system and support it. Also be on call for Shelter Program staff, addressing resident, staff and program needs.
Actively contributes to the organizations strategic plan and participates in all activities/duties assigned to members of the management team.
- Training and coaching shelter program staff.
- Provide direct supervision and assignments for all shelter program staff and interns.
- Serve as an agent of Seton Youth Shelters, developing and maintaining professional relationships with private and public agencies to promote good community relationships and to utilize community resources where possible.
- Build a culture of continual quality improvement for services and ensure all organization standards are consistent in all facilities/programs.
Management of the Hotline and Safe Place Protocols.
- Conduct open chart reviews to ensure timely submission, completion and content of shelter staff documentation and that the documentation is in support of the ISP and Discharge/Aftercare plan.
- Develop and provide oversight of the Shelter Program psycho-educational groups to include documentation of resident participation, scheduling and supervision of group facilitators, data collection for internal statistical reports and consultation with Management Team regarding program impact.
- Supervise Shelter Program staff in preparing chart closure and for final chart review.
- Direct oversight and management for school enrollment of residents
- Coordinates community based post-secondary academic observation and practicum/internship opportunities for the Shelter Program
- Coordinates training for Shelter Program staff to include but not limited to: CPR, First Aid, CPI, Medication Management, Standard Precautions, and other training required by the Standards for Licensed Children’s Residential Facilities for the State of Virginia.
- Develop and maintain Policy and Procedure Manual for Shelter Program to ensure programs are in compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
