Job Summary: OSLC’s Children, Youth, and Family ministry centers upon establishing and nurturing relationships within the faith community. This is an interim position for one academic year as Our Savior’s completes a comprehensive reevaluation of our CYF ministries. During this interim period, the incumbent will provide opportunities for youth to learn, grow, and profess their faith; encourage compassionate acts of service; build relationships among peers and volunteers; and support youth and their caregivers.
As this interim position is not full-time the incumbent will collaborate with the CYF Pastor and other staff to identify and train potential volunteers who can consistently facilitate/execute various activities.
Essential Functions:
- Plan and facilitate COW (Church on Wednesdays) weekly for MS and HS youth.
- Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers (mission trips, programming, SALT, or the Youth Ministry Team). This includes ensuring appropriate background checks and abuse prevention policies have been completed.
- With the CYF Pastor, schedule and create monthly agendas for Youth Ministry Team meetings.
- Identify and train a volunteer to Plan and facilitate FOF (Faith on Fridays) for 6th graders.
- Coordinate and lead the SALT team volunteers for confirmation workshops, huddles, retreats, and special events.
- Identify and train a volunteer to organize and lead the Senior Faith Stepping Stone breakfast.
- Obtain and maintain a record of youth permission slips.
- Maintain a ministry of presence with youth.
- Plan and execute summer offerings, including at least one summer mission trip along with pre and post-trip meetings.
- Facilitate annual SnowFest Retreat
- Facilitate fundraising for summer trips and other youth programming/events as necessary.
- Maintain an annual budget developed by the CYF Pastor.
- Assist the CYF pastor with confirmation retreats, guide huddles, Faith Stepping Stones, and the Rite of Confirmation.
- Collaborate with the CYF pastor for youth-led worship services.
- Where possible, collaborate with the children’s ministry team to facilitate transition between age groups.
- Maintain the youth room.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Have a working knowledge and practice of the ELCA and its theology.
- Possess the ability to teach others.
- Hold a Bachelor degree (preferably in Children, Youth, and Family Ministry or Education) or one (1) to five (5) years’ experience in children/youth/family ministry or related field.
- Have a valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check.
Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
