Run Dog Run provides premium dog care for our dog clients and their owners throughout Kitsap County. As the Assistant Operations Manager, you are responsible for hiring, training and supervising a small team of pet care specialists and groomers in delivering exceptional dog care and customer service.
This is a fast paced, growing and complex business with many moving parts and is a hands on role, not a desk job. You must be willing and able to jump in and help with various aspects of the business when needed. You must demonstrate that you have a solid understanding of dog behavior, customer expectations and be able to consistently drive improvements in the way that we deliver our services and run our business.
Together with the Operations Manager, you should be able to help create a positive culture of teamwork, integrity, inclusion and respect.
This is a 9am-6pm M-F role and you must be available to consistently work those hours. You must also have the flexibility to rotate on-call coverage for weekends with other managers.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a friendly, professional and respectful approach in all interactions with customers and employees.
- Be able to make sound decisions and be able to give clear direction to others.
- Handle escalated calls and emails regarding customer concerns and be able to diffuse and resolve those concerns appropriately.
- Inform hiring decisions, train and coach employees and ensure you are preventing regretted attrition.
- Demonstrate solid planning and scheduling to ensure operations runs smoothly and effectively,
- Manage performance successfully including writing and delivering performance reviews and ensuring appropriate documentation of performance issues. Partner with the Operations Manager to address serious performance issues that may warrant termination.
- Prevent illness and injuries by ensuring that you are maintaining a high level of cleanliness and required safety protocols are being followed at all times.
- Perform evaluations of new or returning dogs to determine if they are a good fit for our services.
- Exercise appropriate delegation of both routine and moderately complex tasks and decisions to assistant managers and leads.
- Create and administer training programs and materials.
- Perform regular audits of the business.
- Hold regular 1:1s with team members.
- Provide the Operations Manager with weekly financial and business updates for the services you are responsible for..
- Handle incidents and emergencies as they arise according to business and legal requirements.
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise in the systems used to support the business such as Gingr, our reservation system and Gusto our payroll system.
Skills
- High degree of comfort around dogs. Experience with dogs of various breeds and solid understanding of dog behavior required.
- At least 2 years of experience supervising teams in a busy, service environment.
- You must be comfortable with technology and using Google office products such Gmail, Sheets and Docs.
- Excellent customer service skills and ability to solve problems effectively.
- You must be able to work efficiently, track and complete deliverables on time and manage priorities appropriately.
- You must be able to maintain a productive and professional work environment and set an example to others in this capacity.
- Ability to quickly learn new systems and tools.
- Above average communication skills (verbal and written).
- Clean driving record and comfort level driving a large SUV.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience strongly preferred.
