Assistant Project Manager (Mechanical Construction)
Position Overview
We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager for mechanical construction to support delivery of complex HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal projects across commercial, healthcare, data center, and other mission critical environments. The role assists the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing mechanical scope to meet schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives while maintaining strong client and subcontractor relationships.
Key Responsibilities

Support the Project Manager in day-to-day project delivery, including scheduling, cost control, and progress reporting.

Coordinate mechanical trade activities (HVAC, piping, sheet metal, plumbing) with general contractors, other trades, and owner representatives to ensure on-time, on budget installation.

Manage subcontractor procurement, scopes of work, and performance; review submittals and monitor compliance with contract requirements.

Track and process RFIs, change orders, and submittals; maintain project document control and provide timely communication to stakeholders.

Assist with project budgeting, forecasting, and invoice review; track labor and material costs and support cost reconciliation.

Conduct regular site visits to verify work progress, quality, and adherence to safety standards; prepare site reports and punch lists.

Support commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover activities for mechanical systems, including coordination with commissioning agents and owner teams.

Participate in preconstruction and coordination meetings; review drawings, specifications, and BIM models to identify constructability issues.

Enforce company and project safety policies and support incident investigation and corrective actions.

Maintain strong client relationships through professional communication, timely updates, and responsiveness to requests.

Utilize project management and construction software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, BIM/Revit) to manage deliverables and collaboration.
Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Building Systems Technology or equivalent experience; Associate degree plus relevant experience considered.

3+ years of hands-on mechanical construction experience, ideally including HVAC, piping, sheet metal and plumbing work on commercial, healthcare, or datacenter/mission critical projects.

Demonstrated experience in project coordination or assistant project management roles; familiarity with scheduling, budgeting, and change management processes.

Working knowledge of mechanical systems design, installation practices, and codes (mechanical/plumbing/energy/pressure piping as applicable).

Experience with mission critical and data center environments or healthcare projects is strongly preferred.

Proficiency with construction/project management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project) and familiarity with BIM/Revit workflows.

Strong communication, organizational, and problem solving skills; ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Knowledge of subcontractor management, contract documents, submittal/RFI/change order processes, and quality control procedures.

Commitment to safety with experience enforcing jobsite safety programs; OSHA certifications a plus.

Relevant certifications such as PMP, LEED, or trade certifications are a plus.
